After the settlement was reached in December, Heard issued a statement.
“After much deliberation, I have made a very difficult decision to settle the libel suit my ex-husband brought against me in Virginia. It is important for me to say that I never chose this,” she wrote . “I was defending my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The slander I’ve faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways women are victimized again when they come forward.”
“Now I finally have a chance to free myself from something I tried to leave more than six years ago and on terms I can agree to,” Heard continued. “I made no confession. This is not an act of concession.”
