Manchester City and Inter meet on Saturday in the UEFA Champions League final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. It is Pep Guardiola’s second time at the showpiece in the past three editions after his City side lost to Chelsea in 2021. The Nerazzurri were last here in 2010 when they won, but Simone Inzaghi’s men are the undisputed underdogs for these Premier League champions strong favourites. A win for Pep and City would see Guardiola win his third UCL title with his second other club, as the club finally achieve that continental success they’ve been looking for for years.

How they got here
City: Guardiola’s side topped Group G five points ahead of Borussia Dortmund with four wins from six games. RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich were knocked out in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively before defending champions Real Madrid were also seen out of the semi-finals to kick off this final showdown.
Below: Inzaghi’s men finished second behind Bayern in group C with eight points, but three better than Barcelona. Inter knocked out Porto in the round of 16 before going top with Benfica in an eight-goal quarter-final. Bitter rivals Milan were blown away in the semi-finals to book this date with City.
Team news
City: Kyle Walker seems to be fit enough for this, so that must have reassured Guardiola and his medical staff. The starting eleven should be as expected given the consistency this season, although it’s not certain Ilkay Gundogan will stay beyond the final, so this could be his swan song 10 years after his defeat to Borussia Dortmund in 2013. Erling Haaland is still chasing still on his 13th goal of the edition, which would be better than Ruud van Nistelrooy’s most UCL goals in a single season for an English club.
Possible City XI: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji; Stones, Rodri; Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland.
Below: Henrikh Mkhitaryan is fighting to be fit but should somehow be ready to play, while Joaquin Correa is also winning his battle. Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko could pass as Inzaghi’s favorite starting pair with Romelu Lukaku coming off the bench in what will likely be his last appearance. Mkhitaryan could replace Marcelo Brozovic if deemed fit to start. Federico Dimarco was groomed with this match in mind, while Alessandro Bastoni, Matteo Darmian and Francesco Acerbi should once again fill the roles for Andre Onana — another clean sheet would tie Edouard Mendy’s record of nine in 2020/21.
Possible Inter XI: Onana; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Mkhitaryan, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Martinez, Dzeko.
Prediction
This one could be tighter than expected as City are big favourites, but Inter have the means to hurt them. This player needs more than 90, wouldn’t be too surprising, but Guardiola’s men should have enough to beat Inzaghi’s side. Choose: City 2, Inter 1.
