If you find the constant buzzing of your phone to be distracting or unnecessary, you’re not alone. Fortunately, many of the best Android phones offer multiple ways to manage and disable vibrations.
Whether it’s for notifications, incoming calls or specific apps, you can customise your phone’s settings to reduce or completely turn off vibrations.
Here’s how to turn off vibrations on your Android phone or tablet.
Why is my phone vibrating?
Your Android phone vibrates for several reasons:
- Notifications: Apps send alerts for messages, updates and other activities.
- Calls and messages: Incoming calls and texts often trigger vibrations.
- System alerts: Low battery warnings, alarms and other system notifications.
- Haptic feedback: Tactile feedback for touchscreen interactions like typing, navigating menus or when gaming.
Knowing why your phone vibrates can help you decide which vibrations to disable and which to keep.
How to turn off system vibrations
System vibrations include haptic feedback and other default settings that make your phone vibrate. If you want to turn them off:
- Go to your phone’s settings and tap on ‘Sound & vibration’ (the exact wording might vary depending on your device model).
- Look for an option labeled ‘Vibration’ and toggle it off to disable vibrations when you touch the screen, gets a notification or someone calls you.

How to turn off vibrations for specific apps
You may want to keep vibrations for certain alerts but disable them for specific apps. If you want to customise app-specific vibration settings:
- Go to ‘Settings’, scroll down and tap on ‘Apps’ (you may need to tap on ‘All apps” as well).
- Choose the app for which you want to disable vibrations. Then, tap on ‘Notifications’ within the app’s settings.
- You will see various types of notifications the app sends. Tap on each of the notification categories you want to adjust.
- For each notification type, toggle ‘Vibrate’ or ‘Vibration’ off. However, keep in mind that most apps use your device’s system’s settings and don’t have their own.
That’s all. By following the steps above, you can significantly reduce or eliminate unwanted vibrations on your Android phone.
