A couple of leaked images have surfaced recently that show a comparison of the new PS5 slim as it being affectionately referred to, and the original model design that’s currently available. First things first, the actual new design of the PS5 is not something brand-new as Sony has confirmed it already. What the leaked images do show are how small it actually is compared to Sony’s initial design. And perhaps to no one’s surprise, there is a significant difference.
With that being said, the difference is more in the thickness of the console rather than the overall height. As the newer model only shortens up by a tiny bit. But it still has a reduced footprint overall and that might sway some to go for this particular model. Even if they already own an original. Of course, the main reason to get one of these newer versions of the system is the removable disc drive. But the reduced size is certainly going to be a driving factor for some consumers.
PS5 slim comparison leak also shows the new horizontal stand
In addition to getting a side by side view of the two PS5 designs, there’s also a small image of the new horizontal stand. While the stand for the original PS5 acts as both your vertical and horizontal one, the new design has a different horizontal stand and Sony will be selling a new vertical one that looks sort of like a giant ring.
With the new horizontal stand it’s relatively small and is actually two separate pieces. Likely one placed at each end of the console. The leak also reportedly showed a screenshot seemingly confirming the requirement of an internet connection to enable the disc drive. However the original post where the leaked images were visible has now been deleted. You can still however see the leaked images of the consoles side by side and the stand below.
