Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, wants all 149 Republicans who voted for the debt ceiling deal to get primaries in 2024, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
“The Republican Party, the 149 who voted for it, should all get the primary,” he said in a statement on his podcast “War Room.”
The bill has arrived a 314-117 vote that saw majorities in both parties, but 149 Republicans voted in the affirmative while 165 Democrats approved the deal.
Bannon was baffled by what the 149 could have found in agreement with a vast majority of Democrats. And his calling primary proponents included Greene, along with Representatives James Comer (KY) and Jim Jordan (OH).
“Let me repeat that,” Bannon insisted. “All of them, including people we adore and some we adored, should take precedence.”
“The 149 who voted for it (debt ceiling) should all get priority – ALL of them, incl. ppl we love and some we loved…”
“They have to be on the debate stage (primary season) and… justify what they did with the knowledge they had, at the time of what when… https://t.co/P4BTBv8f4r pic.twitter.com/iPKNxCjHIY

Bannon says Jordan and Greene must answer for the debt ceiling vote
Bannon argued that Republicans who voted for the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling agreement should explain to voters why they capitulated.
“They need to be on a debate stage in base season and they need to justify what they did with the knowledge they had, what happened then and what the impact is because the impact on base season will be much worse than it is now ‘, he said.
Greene has already discussed why she sided with McCarthy, giving President Joe Biden two years to keep borrowing money.
“I chose to do the hard thing, and you want to know how I did it? I did that because I like to sleep at night,’ she said. “I’m not going to sit here throwing red meat because that’s what people want to hear. I’m going to think hard about this and consider this decision. And I’m going to do the right thing.”
“And so that’s what I did. I chose the hard,” Greene added. “The one that was tossed and tossed and tossed, but I’m fine with it.”
Going along to get along isn’t the “difficult”.

Greene says she’s “done” with Bannon
Bannon has said Greene and Jordan must face the primary challenges of “Really MAGAcandidates.
Greene did not take kindly to being called out for her alliance with centrist House Speaker McCarthy and bowing to Biden.
In a text message received by The everyday beastGreene told her fellow Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) that she is “done” with Bannon.
“Steve and I are not getting back together,” she wrote. “And if he continues like this, I’ll take the house and the kids. I hope you send it to Steve. Because I’m done.”

Greene also seems poised to be a fiery maverick in the house, going from a MAGA warrior to a simple dancing monkey for McCarthy over the past year.
The debt ceiling agreement received more votes from Democrats than Republicans. It was even saved by the Democrats after 71 conservative Republicans voted against the legislation.
The Political Insider reported on the many ways the deal fell short of conservative principles — including failing to cut spending to acceptable levels, adding $4 trillion to the debt and pandering to the White House — and the reasons why the Democrats celebrated the deal more.
Biden was so happy that he made a rare appearance from his Delaware beach house to give a primetime speech announcing the deal.
Greene’s leader McCarthy also called the deal “fantastic.”
This is great -> Democrats are now officially registered in support of:

– Cut back on IRS funding

The debt ceiling agreement points to continued weakness in the Republican leadership. Greene is now part of that weakness and, as Bannon says, she and the other 148 Republicans must answer for it.
