Dogs are credited with saving their owners’ lives after a house went up in flames in the middle of the night in Essex, UK, on Saturday. According to a Subway report, a couple managed to escape the massive flames that engulfed their home after being awakened by their two chihuahuas.
A neighbor told me BBCthat they woke up to find the couple, who live in the house, in the garden with their two pets. They were awakened by an explosion and “looked out the window and saw a sea of orange”.

They said, ‘It was absolutely terrifying – the stables were filled with smoke, the horses were terrified and we had to lead them through blowing smoke and blowing embers. They were very good in the conditions, but they were clearly traumatized by what was going on, because there were blue lights everywhere, there was fire and it was dark.”
Dunmow Road Fire Brigade was called shortly before 2:45 a.m. and was able to put out the fire. The stationmaster said the fire started in an outbuilding before spreading to the roof of the house.
Station manager Terry Maher said: ‘The owners were alerted to the fire early this morning by the barking of their dogs. The fire started in an outbuilding at the rear of the building and quickly spread to the roof of the house.
Crews worked incredibly hard, especially due to the limited water supply, and did a fantastic job saving the property and horses that were in a nearby stable. I would also like to thank Stansted Airport Fire Service for supporting us.”
The house has been declared uninhabitable due to the damage. An investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the fire.
