Disney+ will hardly be feeling blue after seeing the viewership for the “Bluey” special episode “The Sign.”
According to the Mouse House, the special has drawn 10.4 million views globally in its first seven days of availability. It first became available on Disney+ on April 14, with a view defined as total stream time divided by runtime. It is also the most-viewed Disney Junior episode premiere and biggest “Bluey” episode premiere ever on Disney+.
“Bluey” has proven to be a smash hit on streaming, with the show ranking as the second most-streamed show of 2023 according to the Nielsen rankings, with 43.9 billion minutes viewed. Over 150 episodes have been made to date, though each episode typically runs less than 10 minutes, further cementing just how popular the show is. “The Sign,” by comparison, was 28 minutes long.
The viewership news also comes after Disney announced a special surprise episode of the show would be debuting on April 21 on Disney+, Disney Junior, and the Disney Channel. No viewership data is currently available for that episode.
Created by Joe Brumm, “Bluey” centers around a family of dogs named the Heelers (who also happen to be Blue Heelers). Bluey lives with her sister Bingo, her mother Chilli, and her father Bandit in Brisbane, Australia. Together, the Heeler family spends most episodes tackling the simple challenges of life (getting yard work down, trash day, or simply just trying to get out the door). But even the simplest of tasks is made uniquely adorable by the cast of puppy friends (all with delightful dog names like Socks, Muffin, Stripe, or Frisky).
