Piers Morgan tried to sell Donald Trump as something of a foreign policy mastermind — but former New Jersey governor Chris Christie (R) was having none of it.
The former president has boasted of his close friendships with dictators and autocrats, including North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Morgan said on “Fox News Tonight” that the US has never gone to war under Trump and that no dictator has “pulled stunts” during his presidency.
Was there some method to Trump’s madness in the way he treated these people, in the sense that people thought he was crazy, but maybe Trump’s unpredictability kept people like Putin and Kim Jong Un in their box? ” said Morgan.
Christie — who is challenging Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination — interjected with a reality check.
“I don’t think calling Kim Jong-un a great guy has stopped him from continuing to develop missile technology that would allow those missiles to reach the United States now,” Christie said. “That happened under the watchful eye of Donald Trump.”
Putin, he said, continued to build up his army in anticipation of an attack on Ukraine.
“He won’t answer that either,” Christie said. “And he gives no accountability for holding back military aid from Ukraine to try and dirty Joe Biden.”
