It’s been two years since we first heard about Material You, and Google is still pushing it into various corners of the Android experience. While the Discover Feed in the Pixel Launcher has some content that you can influence, the company is making it better. The Discover Feed gets better dynamic colors.
At this point, most Google apps match the colors in your wallpaper. The company has been slowly changing their visual aesthetic to create a unified experience. This also happens between the web apps and mobile apps. It’s very different from what we saw a few years ago.
The Discover Feed gets better dynamic colors
As it stands, the Discover feed does have some impact on Material You. It’s not much though. The “Google” text at the top shows your color scheme, and the floating menu (the one you get when you tap your profile picture) has a subtle hint of that color. That’s it, actually.
However, according to 9To5Google, the company is going to make it clearer. An upcoming update will change the background color of the Discover Feed interface to match the dynamic colors. Also, the text will better reflect your colors. You can see this in the screenshots below.
This was discovered in the Google app beta (version 14.26), but is not being rolled out widely. We couldn’t see it on our Pixel 6. We’re not sure when the company is going to release it to the public.
In any case, it is nice that the company is making this change. The Dynamic Color feature is quite widely accepted. Google has improved this feature in the past two versions of Android. We came from just four selections of pastel color schemes. Now there are many more options to choose from. It allows you to better customize your phone’s software.
