A Westminster police officer is on paid administrative leave after striking and killing a pedestrian who got into traffic Tuesday night, according to a press release from the Westminster Police Department.
The police officer, who is not named in the press release, was driving south on Sheridan Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, approaching 107th Avenue when a man stepped into the lanes. The officer punched the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The pedestrian’s name will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The officer was not injured in the incident.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team will investigate the incident and present their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, police said.
